Though it had been a while, I am revelling with reconnecting to all things magical about the Cape.

An easy meander about an hour from Boston, Cape Cod is dotted with charming villages. You feel the weightt of the city hustle and bustle ebb and your whole being begin to dial back and relax.

Loveliness abounds and there is much to discover.

For of you unfamiliar, here are some Cape Cod fun facts:

⚓️ Though Plymouth Rock gets all the attention in the history books, the truth is: the Pilgrims first landed in Provincetown in November 1620. They were horrible fishermen who almost starved to death if not for the indigenous Wampanoag helping them survive until the settlers learned how to fish

⚓️ You can find the tallest all- granite structure in the US in Provincetown which is on the northernmost tip of Cape Cod, and it is a place of amazing history. This is the spot where English settlers landed for the first time. The 252 ft structure is called Pilgrim Monument and it was built in order to commemorate this event

⚓️ With 14 lighthouses spread out throughout the Cape, there are more lighthouses on Cape Cod than any other county in America. From Bourne all the way to Provincetown, lighthouses can be found at all key marine navigation points across the Cape

⚓️ Route 6A, the Old King’s Highway, at 39 miles long, is the longest contiguous historic district in America and contains four centuries of architecture

I am blessed to have my beautiful cousin Daina and her family to have a gorgeous beach house in the small hamlet of Wellfleet.

This town was founded in the 1650’s and is in the mid area of the Cape between the ‘tip’ and ‘elbow’.  It is a tiny place with an annual population of 2760 ( 2010 Census), but grows sixfold during the summer months.

When I visited it the first week of November it was very quiet and so I could enjoy the area with the locals.

If you are a fan of mussels, then a stop at The Bookstore & Restaurant on Kendrick avenue is a must. Casual ambience and deliciousness abound.

Just south of Wellfleet, if you are having a hankering for something sublime and sweet, you must stop by the PB Boulangerie Bistro.  The coffee is divine and the array of gorgeous and decandently delicious pastries will make it difficult to sample just one.

I took a meander to the very tip of the Cape to Provincetown.  I hadn’t been there since I was a kid and so I was re-introduced to its charming beauty.

Oh…..and how could you go to the Cape without enjoying a bowl of clam chowder.   I stopping in at The Lobster Pot in Provincetown and I must say that this was the best clam chowder I have had in a very, very long time. Yummaliciousness!!

Oh, and we talk about the beaches? No words….. I can’t say which was my favourite as that all are rather lovely in their own right. Bliss.

I love Nauset beach. Never have I seen so many pretty shells ( ok they were still alive!) in a gorgeous setting.

The rugged cliffs of Great Island Trail are spectacular.  I had the entire beach to myself to enjoy a picnic and quiet read and listen to the soothing rhythmic sound of the waves crashing on the beach whilst the late autumn sun warmed my face  * sigh * ….it doesn’t get much better than that!

Gosh …. I cannot wait to go back!
