Do you remember as a kid you’d often be asked “what’s your favourite colour”? A rather innocuous question, but one that quite often holds a number of insights.

Because with my work, and quite honestly my personal life, colour plays a very important part and so I find the answer to that simple question very interesting. In marketing and branding it is quite literally a science and strategically considered in development.

On a closer and more personal note, the insights to the answer to “favourite colour” brings:

Blue

Is the most favoured choice according to Live Science   this lovely colour accounts for the most favoured by both men and women. It is versatile and universally appealing, so what does the colour blue signify?

According to The Very Well Mind:

  • Blue is described as a favorite color by many people and is the color most preferred by men.

  • Because blue is favored by so many people, it is often viewed as a non-threatening color that can seem conservative and traditional.

  • Blue calls to mind feelings of calmness or serenity. It is often described as peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly.

I do love this colour in all its lovely permeations in nature, home and apparel. It’s timeless and so versatile whilst providing that soothing calm.

Of all colours I must say I love my favourite colour is pink.

The softness and prettiness.

The delicate nature and femininity.

It has a calming effect and quite interestingly it was used in detention centres and prison cells to soothe aggressive inmates according to an article in Psychology Today.  Moreover, pink is the colour of hope, positivity, romance and calm… and isn’t that what we need these days?

So to add to the calm, I will share some rather amazing pink cocktails to assist with your calming appreciation.

From Champagne and Paper Planes :

The Prickly Pear Magarita

2 medium prickly pears

2/3 cup lime juice (about 4 medium limes)

1/2 a cup light agave nectar

6 ounces of tequila

1 1/2 cup ice cubes

1 bottle sparkling water (16 ounces)

1/5 cup sugar

pinch of cayenne

  • Prepare prickly pears by slicing each in half, scoop out the prickly pear meat and seeds, and discard the skin. Using a fork, mash the pulp and seeds into a semi-puree consistency.

  • In a medium bowl or glass, mix together the lime juice, agave, and prickly pear puree until well combined. Strain with a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher.

  • Pour 1/4 of a cup of the prickly pear margarita mix into a 6 – 8oz glass over ice. Add 1.5 ounces of tequila, then top with sparkling water.

For the sugar rim:

  • Cayenne Sugar Rim – Before pouring your cocktail in step 3, mix the sugar and cayenne together then spread evenly onto a plate. Rub each empty glass rim with a lime wedge, then invert the glass and dip the glass rim into the cayenne sugar.

  • Garnish glass with lime wedge.
